altona helps streamline your whole blood processing workflow

Nucleic acid extraction from whole blood samples is very challenging due to the complexity of the matrix. Whole blood usually needs to be pretreated manually prior to nucleic acid extraction. With the availability of an all-new software, this time-consuming and tedious task can now be performed automatically by the AltoStar® Molecular Diagnostic Workflow.

 

This makes the AltoStar® Workflow more user-friendly and flexible, as it is one of few commercially available workflows that can process whole blood automatically.

 

Using this software, the AltoStar® Automation System AM16 transfers whole blood from the primary to the secondary sample tubes. The operator just needs to load the samples, the pretreatment buffer, and secondary tubes on the AltoStar® AM16. During the automated process, the sample is mixed with the pretreatment buffer by pipetting up and down. The pretreated whole blood samples can afterwards directly be used for nucleic acid purification using the AltoStar® AM16 and the AltoStar® Purification Kit 1.5.

 

With this software, the AltoStar® Workflow is completely automated for all sample matrices. All pipetting steps are executed by the AltoStar® AM16, starting with sample pretreatment, subsequent nucleic acid purification and final PCR setup.

 

The result: less hands-on-time for the operator, better traceability due to automated data handling and higher reproducibility.
